KDU Student & Alumni Centre Launched #Backtobasic Movement!

In line with the recent launch of the National Level of Civic Education by the Ministry of Education and compelled to make a difference, KDU Student & Alumni Centre launched #BackToBasic, a progressive movement to foster a better future for the multi-diverse community behaviour in Malaysia.
This two-phase commendable initiative aims not only aims to educate the nation and communities to adopt a healthy lifestyle while maximising learning experiences with various action plans but also to create awareness in becoming a civilised community by building good habits and moral reasoning. For this, 12 chosen attributes were chosen to form the #BackToBasic movement.

Together with support from #BackToBasic NGO partners including Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor, Kloth Cares, Institut Onn Ja’afar and myHarapan and #BackToBasic Sporting Partner, Malaysian Paralympic Council, this momentous event was officiated by Y.A.M. Tengku Setia Zatashah Binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Member of the Selangor Royal Family and was witnessed by Professor Dr. Hon Wei Min, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) – Academic for KDU University College and Mr. Shanker A/L Sathivellu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration of KDU University College along with several #BackToBasic Icons such as Lisa Surihani, Malaysian Actress, Charles Mohan, CEO of Institut Onn Jaafar, Nik Suzila, Co-Founder of Kloth Cares and several other KDU social media influencers.

These icons were selected as they exhibited #BackToBasic values which comprise boldness, selflessness/altruism, courtesy & being perceptive. With a large number of following on social media, KDU Student Alumni Centre believes that these icons will be able to share good values across the nation and will continue to grow together under this movement of #BackToBasic.

Present at the event, Professor Dr. Hon Wei Min said “We are very proud of our Student Alumni Centre for exercising their role to provide a platform to cultivate these social habits amongst students. Here at KDU, we are determined to prepare our students for responsible citizenship, requiring the integration of knowledge and skills acquired in both the broad curriculum and in the student’s specialized field. This will benefit the communities for a better cultured environment that could sustain the overall business industry. She believes that educational leaders must take responsibility for instilling basic civic practices and virtues in their students for the betterment of the nation.

During the first phase, there will be a series of roadshows conducted and #BackToBasic themed t-shirts designed targeting university students of public universities whereas the second phase will be focused towards creating buzz in high school levels with a variation of different activities and roadshows.

Concurrently and part of the first-phase, a #BackToBasic Viral Video Competition was designed whereby students will need to upload a one-minute video utilising one of the attributes on their respective social media pages and follow @backtobasic_my and @kdusac, and hashtag #BackToBasic #thisiskdusac to their post. Video submissions with the most number of likes will stand a chance to win cash prizes up to RM 3,000!

INFORMATION ON VIRAL VIDEO COMPETITION

With a strong foundation, KDU Student Alumni Centre is on a mission to introduce #BackToBasic as a civic education to all private universities as a module in the academic structure of the General Studies subject and believes that this social movement will be the change maker for the multi-diverse community behaviour in Malaysia.
