UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College Collaborates With Sirim


George Town, 18 March – UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College (UOW Malaysia KDU Penang) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SIRIM Measurements Technology Sdn. Bhd. (SMT) The collaboration will stimulus for a wide range of collaborative activities including but not limited to developing talent that match the industry need which indirectly contribute to the growth of the E&E industry, promote links in teaching and research; develop and to encourage joint research, seminars, conferences, workshops, and to also assist each other in obtaining external funding from outside sources for research.
Dr. Chong Beng Keok, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang’s Vice Chancellor and Mr. Chew Teck Ming, CEO of SIRIM Measurements Technology officiated the event. Also in attendance was YB Danny Law Heng Kiang, Penang State EXCO for Tourism Development.

The partnership would also support the exchange of academic materials and development of joint study programmes, while encouraging any other activities that both institutions agree to be of mutual benefit. “At the moment in time, we are looking at developing the curriculum on IOT, Big Data, and Analytic for the new programmes to be offered in our new upcoming Batu Kawan campus. We will also explore the potential for the setup of co-branded Electronics Lab with SIRIM Measurements Technology (SMT) and their industry partners. A qualified individual from SMT and their partners would also sit in our Industry Advisory Board”, said Dr. Yeap Gik Hong, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang School of Engineering, Computing and Built Environment’s Head who was a key official of the memorandum.

I am confident that through these collaboration, we will be able to develop a strong partnership between Industry and Academia to promote industry ready talent as well as research activities”, comment Mr Chew Teck Ming, CEO of SMT.
